Applying a Potato for Burn Relief If you work in an area that is geared towards burning yourself, such as in a diner, you would be surprised with the number of items that are laying about which can help you to overcome the burn. It is a rather common thing, either touching something that is hot, such as a heat lamp or even spilling something on ourselves as we take the food to the table. Whenever you get a burn in this way, it is time to apply something immediately so that you do not end up with scar. One of the things that I have found beneficial, and it is readily available in almost every diner is a slice of potato. Potatoes have a unique property to them and they can help to pull the hot temperature out of the burn rather quickly. It is also thought that potatoes may be antibacterial or perhaps antimicrobial, which can assist in allowing the burn to heal without having further complications from infection. If you do not have any potatoes laying around, something else that you may want to try is putting a tomato slice on the area of the burn. I know plenty of people that do this regularly, and they claim that there is nothing quite like the sensation as the tomato pulls the heat out of the area very quickly. Some of the acids and chemicals inside of the tomato can also assist you in getting over this problem of burning yourself quickly. Honey is also something that you can apply to the area of the burn, but you would want to make sure that the burn was not severe at all. One of the reasons why this is the case, is because a severe burn needs to breathe and honey will stop that process. Another reason is, honey tends to be thick and you may damage the skin even further as you are trying to spread it on. If you must use honey on a sore area from a burn, try thining it down with vinegar or perhaps a little bit of water. It will then smooth on much easier and still stick to the area. If you only have a second, you can grab any three of these items and put it on the area, attaching it with a bandage. Every once in a while, change the bandage and the piece of food that is underneath it. It works very well.
